In regards to the need for intensive children ministry teacher training, Lisa Ekman of iVangeli Curriculum in partnership with Gospel Light Worldwide, shares: “typically teaching is done in a rote lecture or sermon method and seldom experientially, so crafts, games, dramas and activities are never featured. So this is a great challenge to change their teaching methodology to a learner based interactive style. It needs intensive training across the country to change this mind set.”

Understanding the vital need to address this issue, iVangeli has spent much time and effort doing teacher training workshops throughout South Africa. Over the past four years over 300 churches have been supplied with curriculum through iVangeli (GLW) and 1,183 teachers received training … tools to effectively disciple for children who will perhaps grow up become the next teachers.

In partnership with the South Africa National Sunday School Association and a local team of translators, editors and artists, we have completed our children’s Bible curriculum specifically to the South African culture and promote it under the name of “iVangeli.”

This culturally sensitive version was first written in English, then immediately translated into the Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaans languages to serve both the black and white communities.

Churches appreciate the local flavor of iVangeli, curriculum developed and produced in South Africa. Being locally produced means the lessons are culturally relevant to South African children.

Unfortunately, there are still thousands of churches that have not even considered using curriculum of any kind as Sunday School is seen as a baby-sitting service and not a teaching opportunity. Local leaders are just beginning to promote the true value of children’s ministry.

It is the great desire of iVangeli in partnership with Gospel Light Worldwide to promote the idea of children’s ministry to uninformed churches throughout this region.

The Work is not done and the NEED still persist.

We have recruited some people to translate the books into Afrikaans and this is almost complete. Afrikaans is the second most widely spoken language in South Africa. So we are hoping to launch the Afrikaans material soon and bring on board the Afrikaans churches with the 12 years of curriculum in their language.

We endeavor to make the curriculum available for the impoverished churches. Please consider joining Gospel Light Worldwide with funding the translating, contextualization, printing and distribution of this vital, life changing curriculum.

So to this end we request the amount of R240 000. ($30,000)

The breakdown:

$12,000 for printing of new children’s curriculum

$ 7,000 for translators

$ 7,000 for proofing/editing

$ 4,000 for training

iVangeli Curriculum is becoming the largest most well known curriculum in South Africa. Many churches across our borders have requested material so we would like to increase our range throughout Africa.

Please consider joining the adventure of reaching “One Million Children” in Africa of what was called ‘The Dark Continent” with ‘The Light of the World.”

A South Africa Partner Briefing is available upon request

In challenging economic times like these, we know how difficult it can be to fund all of the needs of your children’s ministry. We understand and want to help.

Let us help you raise funds for your children’s ministry.

You see, one of the things we have to do constantly is raise funds to bring God’s Word to children all around the world. We know that if we do not raise funds for these projects, our children’s ministry teachers would not get the resources they need for an effective program. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

How it works: For the best possible results, we recommend a Free Church Movie Night showing One Million Children; a Journey of the Heart.

When the movie has finished and after you offer everyone a chance to participate by discussing the film, pass out copies of the forms (below) letting people know that your church has a special Thinking Globally, Acting Locally sharing arrangement with us and that means that all donations collected at your church will be split 50/50 between Gospel Light Worldwide and your children’s ministry program.

In other words, together we’re ‘glocal’- you know, Thinking Globally, Acting Locally. We’ve become partners in helping children know Jesus; in your church and around the world. Now, that’s a perfect match!

Project: Evangelical

“First of all let me thank Gospel Light Worldwide in the name of the Albanian staff of YBC [Youth Bible Curriculum] project in the Evangelical Alliance of Albania office. You have been a real blessing to us, especially with your huge help with the materials of the curriculum. You have been always ready to help us in every moment. Ditjon, our talented designer told me about your will to help our work. We believe that very soon Albanian kids will have the greatest material ever in their language! An important role in this project has also been our close partner organization: World Vision/Albania. As one part of the work is going well, we want to do the best even in promoting and distributing YBC. Our goal is that every church in Albania will be using the YBC curriculum.”

By Lisa Ekman of iVangeli Publishing in South Africa and partner of GLW:

This was said to me by one of the leaders of a church in Port Elizabeth where I ran a training this week-end: “I am so tired of using material which is just not relevant for South African churches. The imported material I have been using just needs too much adjustment to make it suitable for our church. Sometime you wonder if it is worth spending all that money on an imported material”

iVangeli’s Curriculum (adapted from Gospel Light) was developed for the South African churches. So in Port Elizabeth a city of about 1million people the Congregational churches were having an annual conference for their regional representatives for children’s ministry.
These 21 people represent up to 20 churches each. They were all desperate for material they could use for their Sunday schools that is affordable and relevant to the children in their churches

We got together another whole group from various churches in Port Elizabeth to come for training. 67 arrived and we had a wonderful time. Being so far from Johannesburg 900 km 556 miles they are quite isolated so they enjoyed the training immensely.
So it has been an exciting weekend here in South Africa 88 teachers trained.

Please pray for the continued success in this project of raising up teachers and producing effective curriculum for children’s ministry through iVangeli in concert with Gospel Light Worldwide. Your gracious donation would make a big difference. Would you consider clicking on the “donate now” button and make a difference today?

By GLW contact: Pastor Boaz Gill
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!!
Please note that Pakistan is hit by Dengue Fever Epidemic very badly especially Punjab that mainly includes Lahore where we have about 43 congregations related to us directly and about 100 indirectly. By now I have received about 100 emails of help for the medical equipment, medicines and mosquito nets for the use against the mosquito bites or for those who are already sick with it!!
In Lahore alone till today 10244 people have been reported sick with Dengue and in Punjab province the numbers are 11584. In the last 24 hours 716 new cases has been reported and the numbers are increasing dramatically every day due to the none availability of the resources and lack of awareness about safety precautions among people. More than 100 have already died and many are critically ill and that even included Christian ministers and their families.
Dr. Rev. Hizkiel Serosh lost her wife with Dengue Fever and we have reports of other Pakistani Christians including an 18 year old girl died with the dengue.
Our Dear Brother Ephraim Hidayat Head of Evangelical Christian Assembly working with Shaffaf Trust in Pakistan along with his wife and Son is sick with Dengue fever and I request to all of you kindly keep him and his family in your prayers. He is a wonderful brother in Christ and full of passion to serve the Lord in Pakistan.
In Sind province flood’s destruction is continued and 29000 villages in 21 districts with more than 100,000 people have been affected. Many have died and Children and women are among those who are suffering more. 64000 Animals/cattle have died and crop’s been destroyed as well in this flood.
People are becoming sick after using dirty water and bad food or no food at all. We have about 30 churches in these areas directly connected with us and who are asking for help to provide clean water, food, medication and milk for infants. Please keep it in your prayers.

More and more churches throughout China are seeing the need to develop a children’s ministry. For decades, it was too risky for churches to hold children’s meetings of any kind, primarily because it is difficult to keep Sunday School services quiet. Although religious education is still technically not allowed for young people under 18, churches in many areas have been able to successfully hold weekly Sunday Schools.

With our partnership with ZDL Publishing in China, major strides have been made in developing culturally relevant, age appropriate children’s Bible lessons and train volunteer nationals to become children’s ministry leaders, enabling God’s Word to be cultivated further in China.

Gospel Light Worldwide has been blessed to be working with a team of dedicated nationals and expatriates in China as well as our friends at Tyndale House Foundation. We have also worked with the International Fellowship in printing 16 curriculum sets that have been distributed to churches across China.

We have seen this years funding go towards writing and training.

It has met the needs that children’s ministry coordinators require in terms of training and curriculum development and how it can be an impact. We continued to work with this skilled team of writers, translators, editors and artists to meet our curriculum development objectives.

We have trained in over a dozen cities including some stage 4 follow-up lessons, thereby completing the entire training course.

Recently we have seen some of the fellowships burdened to take up the responsibility to train and mentor other churches. This has been a distinct encouraging shift of mindset to become more missional and outward focused.

The most encouraging aspect is seeing that when we train, cast vision and share about this project lives are being changed. People have responded with encouragement knowing someone cares enough to enable them (Chinese) to have such well done materials of Gospel Light Curriculum. The leaders feel empowered in their training, not only to minister to the children but to help –even train others.

Certainly having age appropriate materials makes a huge difference in training teachers. It is like having the right tools to build with.

Also we have helped to run VBS and seen encouraging results from the kids attending. It has also helped some of our staff who have participated to begin to focus on kids ministry as an important part of the growth of the Church.

It is still illegal to evangelize children under 18, but we have managed to press on in getting God’s Word out to the community. Although tenuous at times, the officials continue to allow us to work to provide the printing of curriculum through the official government approved Church. We have continued to distribute a second print run of 16 different books of children’s Bible curriculum to be used internally and sold openly.

Continue to pray as we look to God for the continued opportunity and provision to reach our Chinese brothers and sisters and help support their efforts to encourage others.
