The Children’s Ministry That Could Change a Nation

In partnership with the South Africa National Sunday School Association and a local team of translators, editors and artists, we have completed our children’s Bible curriculum specifically to the South African culture and promote it under the name of “iVangeli.”

This culturally sensitive version was first written in English, then immediately translated into the Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaans languages to serve both the black and white communities.

Churches appreciate the local flavor of iVangeli, curriculum developed and produced in South Africa. Being locally produced means the lessons are culturally relevant to South African children.

Unfortunately, there are still thousands of churches that have not even considered using curriculum of any kind as Sunday School is seen as a baby-sitting service and not a teaching opportunity. Local leaders are just beginning to promote the true value of children’s ministry.

It is the great desire of iVangeli in partnership with Gospel Light Worldwide to promote the idea of children’s ministry to uninformed churches throughout this region.

The Work is not done and the NEED still persist.

We have recruited some people to translate the books into Afrikaans and this is almost complete. Afrikaans is the second most widely spoken language in South Africa. So we are hoping to launch the Afrikaans material soon and bring on board the Afrikaans churches with the 12 years of curriculum in their language.

We endeavor  to make the curriculum available for the impoverished churches. Please consider joining Gospel Light Worldwide with funding the translating, contextualization, printing and distribution of this vital, life changing curriculum.

So to this end we request the amount of R240 000. ($30,000)

The breakdown:

• $12,000 for printing of new children’s curriculum
• $ 7,000 for translators

• $ 4,000 for training

iVangeli Curriculum is becoming  the largest most well known curriculum in South Africa. Many churches across our borders have requested material so we would like to increase our range throughout Africa.

Outside the United States, there is a serious lack of children’s Bible teaching materials and teacher training. Local pastors, evangelists and church planters from churches around the world, most specifically across India, are reaching out for help. As a result, children are rapidly emerging as one of the leading ministry priorities in India.

Gospel Light Worldwide introduced the “One Million Children” theme as a word picture to concentrate ministry resources and efforts. Since then, India has become our first identified “One Million Children” country.

We joined with the indigenous church and other international and resident ministry partners to simultaneously translate lessons from English into Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. To reach the rest of India and “One Million Children” by the end of 2012, we will concentrate our efforts in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, where churches currently have the greatest domestic evangelistic outreach.

Ministry Objectives

1. Design the most effective and user-friendly children’s Bible study model for all parties involved.
2. Develop a sustainable, measurable and missionary sensitive program to deliver consistently superior field application.
3. Focus alliances, geography and languages for greatest missionary potential.

$10,000 will train 1,000 teachers to deliver weekly Bible lessons to 10,000 Indian children

The One Million Children campaign was developed to focus attention, rally support and spread awareness of the significance of helping children around the world know Jesus. The One Million Children story is now being shared through a storytelling website and a One Million Children movie entitled, ‘A Journey of the Heart’ that is currently offered free in DVD or digital formats. There is even an infectious One Million Children song that causes toes to tap and hearts to move to a Bob Marley like reggae beat.

Dr. Towns says, “I so approve of this program that I give one-half of my tithes and that’s over and above my local church tithe; one half of my tithe from my books goes to this campaign. Why? Because, I want to reach the children of the world.”

Dr. Towns is using his “Mr. Sunday School” platform to challenge the local church and their mission boards to partner with him and Gospel Light Worldwide to reach One Million Children. He says, “For $83 per month, we can train one thousand children a month.” $1 covers the total cost for an entire year of children’s Bible study or Sunday School, including a culturally relevant translation, teacher training, printing and distribution of the materials, delivering the lessons and evaluation.
