INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHING POLICY
Gospel Light Worldwide (hereafter GLW) is responsible for the non-English language & English International licensing and English Audio licensing for Gospel Light product: Regal imprint and Gospel Light curriculum, Servant Publication’s Vine Imprint (which Gospel Light acquired in November 2003) and some Wagner Publication titles (acquired in January 2004).
INQUIRY FROM INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHER:
(Please identify yourself and your company on all emails)
Once you, the International Publisher, have made your inquiry to Gospel Light Worldwide (GLW) on a specific title, we will determine the availability of the title and inform you via email. If you are a new publisher, we will also send you via email an International Publisher’s Information Form (IPIF) in a pdf format prior to contracting. This form enables us to better serve you. (You will need to fill out & sign the form, then email a scanned copy or fax it back to my attention at GLW.)
Should another publisher have a Right of First Refusal relationship with GLW, you will be notified via email. Please read the Right of First Refusal section below for further explanation.
RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL:
The Right of First Refusal is defined as the following:
In general, the right of a person or company to purchase something before the offering is made available to others.
In practice, Gospel Light Worldwide offers the Right of First Refusal for Chinese-language only to ZDL Books:
When an inquiry is made to Gospel Light Worldwide (GLW) regarding a title for the Chinese-language, GLW contacts (via email) ZDL Books with a Right of First Refusal. They respond within 30 days. This Right is expressed in a title by title situation.
REVIEW COPIES:
Review copies are available upon request. Please note that a request to review is NOT a request to Contract. There may be multiple same-language publishers reviewing the same title. Gospel Light Worldwide (GLW) sends electronic pdf review copies, which contain the Front material of the book, Chapters 1 & 2, the last chapter and any ending material. If after reviewing the pdf review copy, you are interested in seeing more of the manuscript, we can email you the pdf manuscript for review only. If you are interested in a physical copy of the title, we will send it via the quickest mail, which may take up to 2 to 6 weeks.
CONTRACTS:Â Contracts are available upon request; you must ask for a Contract specifically, We do not assume that you will want a contract when your publishing house reviews a title.
When a contract has been electronically sent to you in a pdf format, if you are in agreement with the terms, please sign and date two (2) copies of each contract. Return the contracts with the advance royalty fee (USD) to Gospel Light Worldwide, Attention: International Publishing Coordinator, at the following address: 1957 Eastman Avenue, Ventura CA 93003 USA.
An original contract will be returned to you for your files once the advance has been received. At that time, you may officially begin the translation process. As the International Publisher, you do not legally receive the rights for the title until both parties: you, the International Publisher, and Gospel Light Worldwide, the Proprietor, have signed the contract and you have paid the royalty advance.
Due to the fact that our Author’s royalties are paid from Advance payments, please note that Advance Payments are not refundable or transferable, even if your publishing house does not publish an edition of the title.
Per the XII. RETURN OF AGREEMENT Clause in our contract, contracts must be signed by you and returned to Gospel Light Worldwide along with the advance within 60 days of the contract date. Contracts are granted to the first publisher who returns the signed contract with the advance royalty fee. Contracts become Active once the Advance payment has been received.
ADVANCE LICENSING POLICY:
Gospel Light Worldwide (GLW) can license contracts for titles which have not yet been released by Gospel Light, the publisher, BUT please note the following: The International Publisher does not legally receive the rights for the title until you, the International Publisher, and Gospel Light Worldwide, the Proprietor, have signed the contract and you have paid the royalty advance.
Due to the fact that our Author’s royalties are paid from Advance payments, please note that Advance Payments are not refundable or transferable, even if your publishing house does not publish an edition of the title. Also, note that Gospel Light’s release date for a title may change, therefore, the Release dates are current only as of the date we report them to you. Contracts must be signed and returned to GLW within 60 days of the contract date. Contracts are granted to the first publisher who returns the signed contract with the advance royalty fee. Please note that an electronic manuscript may not yet be available for some titles, which have not been released. One will be sent to you as soon as it is available.
IMAGES:
Pertinent Interior images (non-decorative) are included in the contract unless the image is copyrighted (which means it is owned by someone other than Gospel Light). If this is the case, you, the International Publisher, must show proof of purchase from the owner prior to the release of the digital files from Gospel Light. Gospel Light will try to provide you with the owner’s contact information. Interior images will be sent via email, posted to our FTP site or, should these not work, a CD via Fed Ex shipment will be sent after the signed contract and the advance (if applicable) are received.
Please note that for Gospel Light resource titles which contain extensive images, such as the Big Books, if your design department only use PC computers, there will be a one-time fee to change Gospel Light’s MAC readable files to PC readable files.
Cover Images: You, the International Publisher, may design your own covers.
Cover designs are not included in our contracts. Upon request, we will inform you whether the Cover design is available from Gospel Light.
If you are interested in obtaining the Cover images for an individual book for which GLW administers the rights, we will require you to pay a one-time fee to purchase the digital files for the cover.
Gospel Light usually purchases a one-time use of a Stock Image for their covers. Gospel Light is not the owner of the image. You, the International Publisher, will need to purchase the image directly from the owner of the stock image. Gospel Light Worldwide will provide you with the contact info and the price charged to Gospel Light. The Stock Image owner may charge you, the International Publisher, another price because 1) your use is different from Gospel Light and 2) the prices may have changed from Gospel Light’s purchase date. Once you fax or email GLW the proof of purchase, Gospel Light can release the digital files.
Some of Gospel Light’s covers are not available because they used Royalty-Free images. Although Gospel Light purchased their use indefinitely, Gospel Light is still not the owner. Gospel Light did not maintain the owner’s contact records. Therefore, we are very sorry but some covers are not available for sale.
In most cases, Gospel Light’s cover designs are available if you, the International Publisher, agree to replace the Stock or Royalty-Free image with one you have purchased or own. Because the digital files are usually layered and linked to other files, the Stock or Royalty-Free Images are still included in the digital files. Once you, the International Publisher, sign a Good Faith Statement agreeing not to use the Stock or Royalty-Free images provided by Gospel Light in the digital files, for a one-time fee, Gospel Light will post the images to our FTP site or send the digital files on a CD via Fed Ex shipment after the signed contract and the advance (if applicable) are received.
Please note that the gathering and preparation of images is a lengthy process. After you provide image proof of purchase or sign a Good Faith Statement, Gospel Light may take up to one (1) month to prepare and ship the images. We will need to know if the design files are for a PC or a MAC computer.
FONTS: A particular Font is purchased for the use of Gospel Light only. Fonts, which are provided in the digital files, are provided only because they are linked to the Interior images or the Cover design. We trust that you, the International Publisher, will purchase the specific font if you opt to use the same font.
ROYALTY REPORTING:
Please follow the Royalty schedule outlined in our contract with you. Even if you, the International Publisher, do not owe royalties for a reporting period, in order to keep your contract unbroken, you are still obligated to send a status report to Gospel Light Worldwide for the reporting period for each of your contracted Gospel Light’s titles.
